Summer Plans?

I know it’s a bit early, since spring break hasn’t even happened yet, to start thinking about summer plans but there are so many opportunities out there for you to do! Some of these opportunities require an application to ensure that they are the right fit. Although there are programs all over, I’m going to focus on programs happening on here on Miami’s campus.

Multicultural Leadership Program-Summer Leadership Institute (MLP-SLI)

Miami University's Multicultural Leadership Program Summer Leadership Institute (MLP-SLI) is an intensive residential, pre-college program during which academic, leadership, and career-choice activities are explored through collaborative work with our corporate and other educational development partners. Throughout the four days, MLP-SLI participants interact with current Miami University students, faculty, and staff as well as professional corporate representatives.

Program Dates: June 28-July 2, 2009
Application Deadline: March 20, 2009

Junior Scholars Program

This program offers an opportunity for academically talented high school seniors to learn about university life and earn college credit early. Scholars chosen for the program live in an air-conditioned Miami University residence hall and typically earn six to eight semester hours of college credit in specifically selected summer classes. Students may choose from more than 40 courses in fine arts, languages, humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, mathematics, and computer science. Scholars also participate in a special program of recreation, social events, and co-curricular seminars.

Program Dates: June 28-August 7, 2009
Application Deadline: May 15, 2009

Summer Honors Institute

The 2009 Summer Honors Institute, B the Change (U Wish 2 C), is an intensive 2-week long program that focuses on civic engagement through youth empowerment, social responsibility, and community service work. The program is an outreach and engagement opportunity offered through Lifelong Learning at Miami University in collaboration with Miami University’s Center for Community Engagement in Over-the-Rhine. This dynamic program is open to any student who is currently in the 9th or 10th grade, an Ohio resident, and identified as gifted according to the Ohio Administrative Code 3301-51-15.
To provide program access to students who may not typically be able to attend due to financial constraints, 17 scholarships are available which cover the entire cost of the residential program (commuters attend for free). These scholarships are available on a first-come, first-served basis, however, students who are significantly underrepresented among the gifted student population will have first priority for scholarship funding if their application is received by March 16th. Please note that there are only 25 spaces in the program available so registering early is very important.

Program Dates: July 13 – 24, 2009.
